Meet the
 "COD MOTHER"

Out of the deep routed Scandinavian heritage of the area, the longest  standing tradition of Northland Church started in the autumn of 1915, when the annual chicken dinners of the past switched to the Norwegian delicacies of Lutefisk., Lefsa, plus famous Norwegian pastries such as rosettes and sandbakkels . Since the first Lutefisk dinner began only two years were missed, one year because of World War I and the scarcity of potatoes and one year because of the flu epidemic. Today Northland is one of the few remaining churches hosting an annual Norwegian Supper. Be sure to join us.            .

A lifetime Norwegian Iolaite, LolaMay has been in charge of  Lutefisk prep for close to 20 years.  She arrives  equipped with a cooker designed and built by her husband
George Dalland and another staunch  Norwegian Iolaite, Al Langeland.  With a couple helpers, she prepares the Lutefisk (Cod) for a faithful stream of Lutefisk fans.  Originally the "Cod Mother's" assistants worked by the back door of the church.

That location was later changed to "the shed" to eliminate pine needles from falling in the fish.   Uff Da!

OH LUTEFISK!  OH LUTEFISK!
Edna Tschurwald is a lifetime member of Northland Lutheran Church. Edna cannot recall missing a single lutefisk supper. She still really loves eating lutefisk and she is a pro at preparing it. She has helped prepare and serve the meal every year. Although Edna still helps prepare, her daughter has taken her place serving the meal. Her years of experience give her the official title of  Northland Supper “Lutefiskologist”. Thank you Edna!!
